HFM Hell, and a recipe!

 It's been way too long since I last posted... and I don't like that. We've had a really insane few weeks in the Tater household, and not in the good insane way. Tater started to get sick on a Tuesday 3 weeks ago. It was a cough, runny nose, and a fever. He was miserable. I called his doctor and asked if there was something I could do for his cough. I was instructed to give him Zarbee's honey cough syrup. So I bought a bottle, and man is that crap expensive! But me being cheap is not the point of this post...
  Anyways, we gave him the medicine around bed time. At 11pm he started SCREAMING. It was so loud and intense, I thought the house was sinking like the Titanic. B and I ran in there to see what was going on. He had little red bumps everywhere... We both panicked and assumed it was an allergic reaction. So off to the Emergency room we went. After two hours, we discovered it was Hands, Foot, and Mouth disease. Incase you aren't aware of what it is, here is an article from WebMD. Basically he had flu symptoms with a blister like rash all over his tiny toddler body.

  This poor, sweet boy was miserable. It broke my heart. Then of course I had to catch it... It was the most painful, god awful illness I've ever had. The headache, and sore throat were unbearable... Then the rash started... It felt like my entire body wanted to be numb, but it also felt like I was on fire. It was hell. 
  This brings me back to a few articles where I talked about keeping your sick babies home. KEEP YOUR DAMN SICK KIDS HOME. It appears Tater got his illness from a baby gym (Screw you Lil Monkey Bizness). 

 I really can't stress the importance of stay home when you are sick. You are all adults, I shouldn't have to tell you. 
  Since we were sick, I did make some really great soups, but one recipe I really want to share is a chicken bone broth recipe. Bone broth is tastier, and has essential nutrients you don't get from store bought broths. 


The evening before I made my broth I made a whole chicken in the crockpot. It was so tender! But I will post that recipe this week! 
  I left the carkus and fat/drippings in the crockpot and removed as much meat as I could. After we ate dinner I began preparation for the broth. You are going to pour 12 cups of water in directly into the crockpot. Then add 1 cup of baby carrots, 4-5 green onion sticks, a bay leaf, 4 garlic gloves, some thyme, salt and pepper, lemon zest, and some fresh parsley. I left everything whole since you will be draining the soup. Once everything is in the crockpot turn it low for 13 hours. I just cooked ours while we slept! 
  When I woke up in the middle of the night the house smelled like heaven. After the soup had cooked for 13 hours I strained the broth using a wire strainer. Then I filled up an ice tray with broth for those recipes that only need a few tablespoons! It freezes so well, and the taste is unbeatable!
