10 Seconds

O  *This post is brought to you buy Netflix, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and my undying love for binge watching TV*

  I recently began running out of shows to binge watch on Netflix, so I started a series called "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" It stars the girl who plays in Erin in the Office (I love the Office with all that I am as a person.) Anyways- the show is about a group of woman who were kept in a bunker for 15 years but some crazy pastor who thought the world was ending. They had similar apperances to the FLDS members who were released some time ago. Kimmy, the main character and the strong one decides to move to New York City to start a new life. In the show they do a lot of flashbacks to when the women were down in the bunker. Kimmy has a few lines of truly golden wisdom, however the one that spoke to me the most was this;
"You can handle anything for 10 seconds, just take life 10 seconds at a time. It will be okay"
  After she said that, I had to pause to think about the advice atomic bomb that was thrown on to me. 10 seconds. You can handle ANYTHING for ten seconds. I started thinking about exercise, and how I really hate cardio. Maybe if I handled it 10 seconds at a time it wouldn't suck so bad. Then my mind started going into deeper things. What if when I'm having a bad PPD day, I could just start taking it 10 seconds at a time. Or even when Tater is LOSING his shit, and I'm about to lose mine. I can handle that for 10 seconds.
  After that 10 seconds, you just start a new one.
Things started to make more sense after I thought about it. Take labor for example... You push for 10 seconds, and then you take a break. Labor sucks. I know it, and I'm sure you do too. It's stressful, scary, and if one more person asked me if I wanted ice I was going to explode! Once that 10 seconds of pushing was done, it's like you started over. Your drive came back to push harder the next time around. Or when you get the epidural, you count to 10 and hope that damn thing is in your spine.
  This idea of taking life 10 seconds at a time is genius! Everyone always says to take it 'One day at a time' but what about those days that never seem to end? Even on those days you really can handle anything for 10 seconds.

I'm super glad I found this little piece of knowledge right when I needed it most.
Hope you all have a splendid Thursday.
